Oil Service Myths - Just Say No!
- 3,000 mile / 3 month Oil Change - In 1972, Lt Col Al Amatuzio set a new standard by meeting American Petroleum Institute (API) service requirements with a 12 month / 25,000 mile service interval. Vehicle manufacturers recommend engine oil service intervals for modern engines ranging from 5000 to 10,000 miles. If you are using a lower quality motor oil or your service shop is recommending a 3,000 mile / 3 month service interval, check the vehicle service guide. There is no benefit to using low quality motor oil and performing 3,000 mile / 3 month oil changes. Choose AMSOIL and get superior performance, protection and save money. - Oil Filters only last 3,000 miles - A misleading myth often promoted with 3,000 mile / 3 month oil changes. A modern engine in good working order can be serviced with a standard quality engine oil filter at the OEM drain interval. Check the vehicle service guide for engine oil change interval.
Less than standard quality oil
filters may not provide proper protection for the full OEM drain interval. Don't be a victim to myths, poor practices and low quality filters.
- Add a Quart of Higher Viscosity Oil - The myth to add a quart of higher viscosity oil is a poor practice used for many misguided excuses. The is no basis for mixing viscosities. A properly formulated motor oil is the correct choice for your application. Choose AMSOIL synthetic motor oil for you application.
- Using Oil Additives to Improve Motor Oil - If the motor oil you are using does not meet OEM specifications and needs additives, it was not properly formulated and you need to change to a higher quality motor oil. AMSOIL synthetic motor oil has an advanced optimized additives package. AMSOIL does not recommend aftermarket oil additives and neither do manufacturers of other quality motor oil. If your engine does have early signs of failure, oil additives will not repair the engine. The engine needs to be repaired or rebuilt. Choose AMSOIL synthetic motor oil and don't be victimized by this myth.
